![]() Once it's detected in Settings, follow the steps listed below to format the SD card to portable. If the SD card isn’t detected in Settings, remove and re-insert the SD card. ![]() The phone would constantly time out after a few seconds and blocking my PC's access to the Keyone. If Files by Google doesn't show your SD card: On your device, tap Settings. When I had it in adoptable mode, transferring large files to/from the phone (movies/music/videos) was a nightmare. In my case, I'm currently using portable storage. I like adoptable as the sd card would be encrypted and inaccessible if the phone were to be stolen there are obvious inconveniences (speed/smoothness and data accessibility) to this as you've already pointed out. I too have been deciding whether to use adoptable or portable storage. Random read/write performance is what counts (sequential, not so much) when choosing an SD card for adoptable storage. Not many people realize this, but the phone would spend the majority of its time doing random small block reads/writes. In the case that you intend to use a SD card with data, move everything important away before the formatting. Check any sd card review and you can see this. Data rates of random 4k reads/writes to an sd card are but a fraction of sequential speeds. I recommend against formatting as internal storageI'm not surprised at the end result. (I keep my music etc on my SD card formatted as Portable storage) I've only used about half of the device memory. ![]() before, with internal storage formatting, I had A LOT of lagging and pausing. Oh, 2 other points: (1) it has been a few days, but I DEFINITELY notice a huge speed increase since going with portable storage formatting on my second KeyOne.
